Recap of May’s Meeting

On May 23, AWP enjoyed meeting at the beautiful Norbeck Country Club in Rockville, Maryland .  Norbeck Country Club is situated on 198 acres.  This site is home to a championship golf course, year-round tennis facilities, a state-of-the-art health and fitness center, olympic-size swimming pool, and gracious dinner facilities housed in a newly renovated clubhouse.  Maxine Chen, Catering Manager, described the facilities and how they have used the clubhouse for weddings and receptions as well as other events.  We enjoyed delicious Hors d’Oeuvres, dinner and dessert.

The speaker for the evening was Bruce Cain, The Computer Doc.  Bruce spoke to AWP about the health of our computers.  He discussed security issues, how to protect our computers from Spyware, Adware, etc., how to handle wireless networks and what to do if your hard drive crashes.  It was very interesting to hear how we can protect our businesses from viruses and other invasions to our computer.

The Computer Doc does make house calls.  So, if your computer is not doing what it’s suppose to, or something disastrous happens, call Bruce.  He’ll be glad to come and help you get your business back online.  Bruce can help you install, upgrade, troubleshoot, and get rid of viruses on your home and business computers.  He currently serves the upper Montgomery County areas of Maryland .  You can contact him at 301-330-4033, e-mail him at thedoc@the-computerdoc.biz or visit his Web site at www.the-computerdoc.biz.

AWP Congratulates Larry Glatt of Larry Glatt Photography for winning the 2005 NACE Photographer of the Year Award

Our very own, Larry Glatt, (pictured above on the left) recently won the Greater Washington Chapter of NACE 2005 Photographer of the Year Award.  Pictured with Larry, presenting him the award, are Cliff Shamber of the Marriott Corporation and Bob Madigan, WTOP's "Man About Town."

This annual event took place this year on May 23 at The Washington Club in Washington, DC.  The evening's theme was a "Hollywood Evening of Glamour."   The event is held each year to honor those members that did excellent work in their field, whether it be photography, catering, planning, music, etc. as well as doing work for the association.

Larry says about receiving the award, "I am humbled and honored.  My appreciation to those who selected me and I will do my best to continually live up to the spirit and meaning of this award."

The evening was filled with great food, wine, and music.

Congratulations, Larry.

This Month's Meeting

Tuesday, June 27 at The Westin Grand, Washington, DC

It’s June.  Weddings are popping out all over.  Definitely the time to see and be seen.  So let’s meet at The Westin Grand, located in the stylish West End district of the nation's capital, just minutes from Georgetown and the White House.  Details about the facility are at http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=1013

This is our last “academic” meeting before our July 25 "Fun" Meeting, and we’ll be applying the skills we learned from our “Contacts Count” meeting in March.  Need a quick refresher? Click over to the Resources page, and look for the Networking Tips link.

The academic portion of the meeting will be ten sessions of Speed Intro’s.  You’ll have ten chances to try out your own “memorable intro," and get pointers from hearing ten memorable intro's delivered to you.  Think it’s hard?  Think again – we do it constantly on the phone and in person every day.  We give you the chance to try yours out among friends, and vote for the “memorable intro” you think is most effective.  We guarantee you’ll come away with some needed improvements to your Intro.

We'll give instructions and basic pointers at the start, but the most value will go to those who come prepared!  Remember as you prepare, think "Pull," (not Push) and when it comes to describing what you do, think "Verbs," (not Nouns.)

This is a great meeting to bring a guest.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Register online on or before Friday, June 23 at:  www.weddingprofessionals.org.
